Google is Penalising Your Salon Business

Things change quickly in the online world. And whether you like it or not, your salon business is right in the middle of it!

Your clients, your prospective clients, all use the internet each and every day and they use it at home, on the bus or train, in their car, at work, many are using it any chance they get using a computer, an iPad, a Tablet, a mobile phone.

And one of the things they use is Google. In fact, for a salon business to thrive online, attracting more business, you want to be sure that you can be found easily in the Google search engine.

Well, Google recently changed their search algorithm. Put simply, they’ve changed the way they RANK your salon business compared to your competition.

Not only have they changed their rules, they have introduced a penalty. If you don’t abide by their new rules they will likely send your salon website to the bottom of the pile, never to appear again.

What’s the change?

Well, Google have changed their search algorithm that essentially penalises all websites that don’t have a “responsive mobile design”!

Those salon owners who use the internet to attract business (that’s YOU) should quickly make changes to their website to satisfy this major Google change. And those that do will quickly benefit.

It’s now become crucial to have your website prepared for mobile or face the stark reality of your clients or potential clients not being able to find your pages on Google’s mobile search engine.

Before I explain exactly what “responsive mobile design” is, let’s first discuss a little about the mobile effect on your business.

Mobile search is growing at an alarming rate. More and more people are searching for products and services using a mobile device (smartphone, iPad, Tablets) than those using a personal computer.

And here’s WHY you should be concerned about mobile search for your salon business.

I did a Google search for mobile statistics. Here’s some of what happened in 2012:

  • 61% of smartphone users make local searches from a device
  • 70% of mobile searchers act within an hour; only 30% of personal computer searchers do
  • 79% of smartphone users use their phones to help with shopping and 74% make a purchase as a result
  • More than half (52%) of adult mobile phone owners used their devices while in a store to get help with purchasing decisions.
  • 75% of customers prefer a mobile friendly site
  • Mobile search queries nearly double in the holiday season
  • Adults spend more media time on mobile than newspapers and magazines combined

What these statistics show is that the mobile effect on any business is huge.

Let’s get back to exactly what “mobile responsive design” is all about.

Put simply, it’s changing the design of your website to adapt to the different screen sizes used by smartphones, iPads, and Tablets.

And it’s how YOUR salon or spa business can take full advantage of Google’s new rules.

There’s a fair bit to understand to ensure the best result for your business.
