Google Maps Are The New Yellow Pages

Does your Salon or Day Spa have a Google Map listing? If NOT, then you are missing out on one of the biggest GIANT shifts in technology being used today.

Here’s what I mean.

Your clients and prospective clients are now using SMART technology to find you. They are using Google or their mobile telephone to search within their local area for your service.

The Yellow Pages are now being replaced by online technology such as Google as the number 1 source for finding your business.

In my opinion, I believe that the Yellow Pages is DEAD as a source for new business.

For me, I’d rather make use the internet or my mobile phone rather than search around for a big yellow book .

I just tried it on my iphone. I’ve got this FREE iphone “app” (Google Search), I typed in “hair salon” and then pressed search.

Up came a few hair salons in my local area. It’s really smart. This “app” automatically picks up my current location and only returns the results within that area.

Same thing if I want a restaurant. Just type in “restaurant” and local results are shown.

This is where it gets really interesting. Have you done a search on Google lately?

Google has just changed how it searches and the search results it returns. And it’s going to effect YOUR business whether you like it or not!

I just typed in the same keyword “hair salon” without any geographic location eg. “hair salon brisbane“. The results it returned were hair salons in my local area. So Google is now returning LOCAL search results.

Are you starting to understand the power of this?

But here’s the catch!

For your business to appear, you must have setup a Google listing. And this is something that only 3% of businesses have done. Do the math… 97% of businesses have NOT setup their
Google local business listing.

Now consider this?

When doing a search, 34% of people today are using the listings on Google Maps to find a local business. And this number is growing daily! They could be using the internet or their smartphone. And they’re looking for YOUR business!

Is your Salon or Day Spa business able to be FOUND using Google Maps?

There’s a very strong possibility that the answer is NO!

Salon Website Traffic – Get More Traffic To Your Salon Website

Salon Marketing: You Want The Traffic… Here’s How!

I spent a bit of time this week checking out quite a few salon websites. I see many salon marketing strategies all designed to get more traffic to their salon or spa websites.

And it got me thinking about that famous Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise exchange in the movie “A Few Good Men” and how it relates to what I was looking at with salon websites.

You Want The Traffic, You Can’t Handle The Traffic! Not exactly the line from the movie but here’s my point.

Most Salon & Spa Owners think they need more traffic to be successful online. And many are spending far too much on Pay-Per-Click programs that send them to web pages that have no great strategies to convert those visitors to paying clients.

Very few Salon or Spa websites get FREE traffic from the search engines. And the problem that creates is they have to pay for the traffic instead! And the problem of having no “Conversion” strategy is that many are wasting their money.

So what to do about it?

First up… stop any PPC program immediately until you have measured conversions.

Second… when you discover that your conversions are LOUSY, learn more about the type of salon website content you should be using to massively improve your conversions… salon website content that sells!

Third… and maybe one of the most effective salon marketing online strategies you can do, is discover what things will improve your search engine rankings immediately. Because when you get great search engine rankings you will get MORE FREE traffic, MORE clients and MORE profit from your salon or spa website.

Increase Salon Website Traffic – Part 1

I was doing some research this week on how to get more traffic to your Salon Website. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve found that Salon Owners make is that they go and create their website and then just hope that people find it.

You can easily compare it to your Salon or Day Spa shop front. What do you do, day in and day out, to get people to come into your salon or spa?

It’s likely that you do some advertising, newspaper or yellow pages, maybe even flyers. You would get some “walk-in” traffic, you would get some repeat clients who have re-booked, you might even do some SMS messages, even direct mailouts to your client list.

Now let’s take this ONLINE and list things we might do to get website “traffic” or visitors to your website.

Advertising – we might do some PPC (pay-per-click) and run some ads on ad networks like Google Adwords.
“Walk-in” traffic – that would be people who found you in the search engines. This is FREE traffic (no cost) that results from good search engine rankings based on keywords eg. “beauty salon Armadale”
Direct mailouts – that’s email marketing direct to your email list (check out this great resource for profitable Salon Email Marketing)

So ONLINE Salon Marketing is pretty much the same as OFFLINE Salon Marketing.

So why is that too many Salon & Spa Owners spend very little time and effort marketing their Salon or Spa website?

I know the answer to that! It’s because many Salon Owners do not understand how to market their Salon or Spa. They just don’t know where to start!

That’s why I called this article “Increase Salon Website Traffic – Part 1″. Because there are many parts, different strategies, to getting more traffic to your website.

And let me tell you one of the greatest benefits of salon marketing online. It’s a whole lot cheaper and the results are a whole lot quicker when you do it ONLINE… the right way!

So right now, I’m going to talk a little about PPC (pay-per-click) strategies… in particular Google Adwords.

If I said to you, that you could DOUBLE the TRAFFIC to your salon website in 30 minutes or less… would YOU believe me!

Right at this moment… I bet you don’t!

Remember that I told you I had been doing some research on how to get more traffic to your Salon website. The fact is, I discovered this great resource that explained to me how to use Google Adwords.

Put simply, Google Adwords is a system that allows you to create a Salon Ad, have that ad appear in front of people who are specifically searching for your services, and you pay for the Ad when somebody clicks on it and comes to your website. The amount you pay for the “click thru” can vary from as little as a few cents to a dollar or two.

A word of caution though… make sure your salon website is ready for these people to visit, in that when they come to your website page they discover a reason to contact you. If your website is not ready then your visitor will just click somewhere else and you would have paid money for nothing.

It’s just like having a great receptionist answer the telephone and get the sale. Your website must be ready to make the sale! If you feel like your website needs a makeover then send me an email and we can make a time to discuss your needs.

Here’s what Google Adwords can do for your Salon. It can drive a ton of traffic to your website in a very short space of time. You can create the ad, determine your budget (what you’re prepared to pay) and your ad can be up and running within minutes.
