</p><p>I&#8217;ve just completed another Salon Success Website for one of my clients and I was just doing a regular review of the salon online system that has been setup.</p>
<p>I wanted to check where online visitors were coming from and what they were searching for to find her business.</p>
<p>So I went and checked the <strong>Google Places</strong> data for her business. It tells me the amount of times the business was &#8220;shown&#8221; in Google search results and the amount of times visitors clicked on their business listing.</p>
<p>Google Places is a fantastic tool for salons and when setup correctly it can be a very effective way to get NEW clients into your business.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s really cool with this tool. When combined with your salon website, you can quickly get listed BEFORE your direct competition (those in your LOCAL area) and ATTRACT MORE clients into your Salon.</p>
<p>PLUS, you can get some very valuable information on what prospective clients in your area are looking for!</p>
<p><strong>Let me show you.</strong></p>
<p>Below is a screenshot of the TRAFFIC data for my clients business.<br />

<p>The <span style="color: #0000ff;"><strong>blue</strong></span> line is the amount of times her business was shown in search results that prospective clients searched in Google for.</p>
<p>The <strong><span style="color: #008000;">green</span></strong> line is the amount of times these prospective clients &#8220;clicked&#8221; on her business listing. That is, they actually wanted MORE information about her Salon.</p>
<p><strong>That&#8217;s a genuine &#8220;LEAD&#8221; for her business.</strong> It&#8217;s a prospective NEW client wanting to know details of her Salon.</p>
<p>The data you see covers a period of 1 month up to today. If I just look at the week leading up to Christmas, I can see that <strong>16 people clicked through</strong> for more details on her business.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s GOOD news. 16 prospective NEW clients!</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what else I can see. From the 24th December up to today, there has been no traffic at all. Even allowing for some delay in updates of the data, you can see that traffic drops off considerably from Christmas to New Year. I&#8217;m expecting that people are on holidays and not doing much online searching for this type of business.</p>
<p><strong>Now here&#8217;s another COOL feature of Google Places.</strong></p>
<p>Down the bottom of the data is<em> &#8220;Top Search Queries&#8221;</em>. You can see that the number 1 query is the term &#8220;day spa&#8221;. Results 2 and 3 is the salon business name.</p>
<p><strong>But look at #4</strong>. The term is &#8220;wedding makeup&#8221;.</p>
<p>People are searching for that SPECIFIC service and finding my clients business. I can now go and create, and optimize for search, a specific page for &#8220;wedding makeup&#8221; on her website. Plus I will ensure that the Google Places listing contains more information for that service to ATTRACT MORE clients.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s a FACT, direct from Google;</p>

</p><p>Today I want to tell you about Deanne&#8230; a beauty salon owner who wanted to get her salon business online. I met her 10 days ago and at that time she had absolutely NO internet presence. You wouldn&#8217;t have been able to find her business anywhere online.</p>
<p>But first, I want to explain to you why you should have a business website for your Salon or Spa.</p>
<p>If you own a business today your customers EXPECT you to have a web site and even be contactable by email.</p>
<p>To enjoy all the benefits the internet has to offer, <span style="text-decoration: underline;">your salon website must be able to be FOUND and ATTRACT.</span></p>
<p>But here&#8217;s where most get it wrong. They don&#8217;t design it to FIT the way the internet media is being used by the billions of people who access it each day. People use the internet to research products and services, <strong>to FIND relevant information.</strong></p>
<p>Many Salons &amp; Spa businesses have websites. But one of the biggest problems I find is that they&#8217;re not designed for their customers. Usually they&#8217;re designed by the owner, for the owner&#8230; to satisfy their creative ego!</p>
<p><strong>They don&#8217;t ATTRACT!</strong></p>
<p>Usually the websites full of rubbish&#8230; stuff the business owner THINKS visitors to the website want to know. And a big part of it is designed to show &#8220;look how great I am, look at me, i&#8217;m fantastic&#8221;</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an example&#8230; (salon name has been removed). I just went and checked out one hair salon&#8217;s website where the main element presented to the website visitor was their business vision&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Exclusive, personalized one on one service. Offering the most professional personalized and fashion forward advice in (removed) At (removed) you’ll arrive feeling at home and part of a family and be guided by a team that’s highly educated to ensure you leave breathless.&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s that supposed to mean?</strong> And is it designed to get the website visitor so &#8220;enthralled&#8221; that they then pick up the telephone, dial the number and announce &#8220;just this morning I woke up wanting to find a hair salon that had this Vision&#8230; please book me in!&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>I don&#8217;t think so!</strong></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s some of what website visitors really want to know;</p>
<ul>
<li>where are you</li>
<li>Are you open</li>
<li>What&#8217;s in it for me</li>
<li>Can I connect with you (phone, facebook)</li>
<li>Are people raving about you</li>
</ul>
<p>Couple of big things there&#8230; <strong>where are you, whats in it for me!</strong></p>
<p>I doubt that prospective clients will travel a great distance to try you out on their first visit&#8230; you must be convenient to where they are right now. <strong>Are you being FOUND in the right location?</strong></p>
<p>Are you offering anything that gets the visitor&#8217;s attention! New clients would be attracted to you for many reasons&#8230; they may need a new look, want a hair repair job, have a formal event coming up and want to look great, need a colour etc. <strong>Are you ATTRACTING?</strong></p>
<p>Having a website that fits what people are looking for is perhaps the cheapest, easiest way to grow your business. And it must be easy to find you in your particular area.</p>
<p><strong>So right now&#8230; what are YOU doing wrong!</strong></p>
<p>Ok, you might disagree with me for whatever reason. But understand&#8230; I&#8217;m talking from the view of your prospective client who right now is searching the internet looking for your particular service and is willing to pay you for your services.</p>
<p>So I don&#8217;t give two hoots if you disagree with me. You can be <em>&#8220;RIGHT&#8221;</em> if you want. I&#8217;ll continue to work with those who would rather make money based on what I have discovered really works for salons and spas on the internet.</p>
<p>Which brings me back to Deanne&#8230; a beauty salon owner who I met just 10 days ago who wanted to get her salon business online.</p>
<p>And today, just 10 days later&#8230; here&#8217;s what she has.</p>
<p>She now has a website for her business, that is now appearing in search engines, that may very soon be at the TOP, outranking all her competition for her particular geographic area.</p>
<p><strong>She is being FOUND!</strong></p>
<p>PLUS, she has a great big ATTENTION grabber for her website visitors that gives a STRONG reason for them to make contact with her business.</p>
<p><strong>She is ATTRACTING!</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s been kept simple (because business on the internet does not have to be complicated) and ALREADY she is getting results.</p>
<p><strong>All within 10 days!</strong></p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t have to take months and months nor does it have to be expensive.</p>
<p>And here&#8217;s the best bit. If Deanne wants to &#8220;grow&#8221; her website she can do it herself. There&#8217;s no need to spend money with web-designers. She has total control over her adding or changing her website content.</p>

</p><p>I&#8217;m always looking for the latest ideas on how to promote offers through your salon or spa website.</p>
<p>Keeping up to date helps you stay ahead. Visitors to your website want to see new information and if it&#8217;s different from everything else they see then you&#8217;ll likely get a better response.</p>
<p>So this latest idea for <strong>salon promotions</strong> I&#8217;ve created is a real <em>beauty</em>.</p>
<p>And the results that are being achieved supports what I&#8217;ve always said <em>&#8220;your website should always be evolving &#8211; testing different ways to improve a response&#8221;</em></p>
<p><strong>If you&#8217;re website hasn&#8217;t been updated or changed for some time then you&#8217;re just wasting the space your website is taking up.</strong></p>
<p>Yeh I know&#8230; you&#8217;ve been busy doing the same old stuff, changing the website is something you&#8217;ve been meaning to do. And I understand that talking to your web person can be tough work beacuse you can&#8217;t quite get across to them what it is you&#8217;re trying to achieve.</p>
<p>Not to mention the cost of doing all that. Web people can be expensive!</p>
<p>But that&#8217;s not what has been happening with the clients I work with.</p>
<p><strong>One change &#8211; 4 new clients in 2 days!</strong></p>
<p>Let me explain: I created this new idea, implemented it on my clients website and within 2 days, 4 new clients responded to the offer.</p>
<p>There was no promotion at all&#8230; no emails out, no one got told about it.</p>
<p>But it got 4 new clients! Each wanting to spend $139 in her hair salon.</p>
<p><strong>Do you want to know what I did?</strong></p>
<p>OK, here&#8217;s the details&#8230;</p>
<p><img class="alignright" src="http://www.salonsuccesswebsite.com/images/coupon-example.jpg" alt="" width="250" height="163" />I created a coupon and placed it on the website where it could be seen easily. I then asked the visitor to click on the coupon. They were taken to the special deal and then asked to buy it.</p>
<p>Check out the image opposite. (Actual size has been reduced.)</p>
<p><strong>And visitors actually purchased the deal!</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s only been up on the website for 2 days&#8230; what might the result be after 7 days?</p>
<p><strong>The coupon has some pretty cool features.</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>You can put a time limit on it that automatically counts down. So visitors see the coupon is &#8220;time-limited&#8221;</li>
<li>You can also restrict the number of coupons. If you want just sell 17 of them. This is called &#8220;scarcity&#8221;, designed to improve response.</li>
<li>the coupon is easily customizable. You can change the colours, change the text.</li>
</ul>
<p>It&#8217;s using your website as it should be used &#8211; a &#8220;live&#8221; promotional system that attracts visitors and then gets them to buy.</p>
<p><strong>But so many salon and spa owners get this WRONG! Are you one of them?</strong></p>
<p>Anyway, I could tell you more about this great tool, even show you the website where it&#8217;s in place.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s probably killing you if you&#8217;re crazy enough to provide one of these deals.</p>

</p><p>Jumped onto Facebook recently to check out what&#8217;s happening and I saw this post that made me think a little&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;10% of the year is over, what have you accomplished&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Did you start 2011 with the goal of improving your business? And if you did, how&#8217;s that going?</p>
<p>Now we should all be measuring the performance of our business, maybe even checking our own personal performance. And as a Salon or Day Spa Owner, you should be taking some time checking if you&#8217;re improving your business or going backwards.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m the first to admit that I don&#8217;t measure my performance enough. Sure, I might pay it attention every now and then but the fact is the year goes so fast it&#8217;s sometimes a bit of a blur.</p>
<p>You work hard, every day seems the same, there is bound to be daily challenges that you have to handle&#8230; when do you get the time to actually measure your business performance.</p>
<p><strong>So to help you out, I&#8217;d thought I&#8217;d give you my quick tips for a Salon or Day Spa business check up.</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Are my sales up this month compared to same time last year</li>
<li>Did the number of new clients increase from the previous month</li>
<li>Is my average dollar sale amount increasing compared to the previous month</li>
<li>Is any marketing I&#8217;m doing proving profitable</li>
</ol>
<p>That&#8217;s it&#8230; there&#8217;s quite a few others you could check, but to me <strong>those 4 give you a quick snapshot for <span style="text-decoration: underline;">time starved</span> salon or day spa owners.</strong></p>
<p>Now&#8230; if you answered YES to all 4, then congratulations. Whatever you&#8217;re doing is working and your salon or day spa business is growing.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">If you answered NO to any of them (let&#8217;s hope it&#8217;s not all 4) then you have an emergency to deal with and the time for ACTION is now.</span></p>
<p>Now 1, 2 and 3 are pretty easy to determine. And if you are using a computer based system for your Salon or Day Spa then it should be easy to get the results.</p>
<p><strong><img class="alignright" style="margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" src="http://www.salonsuccesswebsite.com/images/salonAd.jpg" alt="" width="308" height="400" />But it&#8217;s number 4 that a lot of businesses get wrong.</strong></p>
<p>What usually happens is you use an ad like this one (I&#8217;ve removed the Salon name so to avoid any problems ) and you spend a fortune on putting it in a newspaper or plastering it on your window, maybe even creating a flyer to distribute around the neighbourhood.</p>
<p>Worst yet, you use it for a yellow pages ad!</p>
<p>And the results are going to be pretty c**p.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;">But hang on, isn&#8217;t that the type of Ad that all Salons might use. It must work because everyone is using it?<br />
</span><strong><br />
Let me SAVE you some time&#8230; that Ad is not going to work for you, and it will not make you any money!</strong></p>
<p>Here&#8217;s why&#8230; if you use an ad like that the only way you know it&#8217;s going to work is if you ask the client how they found you. That relies on you or your staff asking the question. And if you&#8217;re busy, chances are that you may not even ask the question.</p>
<p>So there&#8217;s no way to actually measure if the ad worked or not.</p>
<p>My advice&#8230; if you can&#8217;t accurately measure the performance of any Ad or promotion &#8211; instantly &#8211; then STOP spending anymore money using that particular Ad!</p>
<p><strong>So what&#8217;s the SOLUTION.</strong></p>
<p>As you know I focus on promoting your Salon or Day Spa using the Internet.</p>
<p>And it&#8217;s no different to what I refer to as the OFFLINE media eg. newspaper ads, yellow pages, flyers etc.</p>
<p>That is&#8230; you must accurately be able to measure the performance of your ONLINE media instantly. And that includes your website, online ads etc.</p>
<p>Many Salon and Day Spa owners use these media to promote their businesses.</p>
<p><strong>And MOST get it wrong online as they do offline.</strong></p>

<li> Can a Salon profit from using the Internet?</li>
<li> Do you need a Salon website to profit from the Internet?</li>
</ol>
<p>The fact is, there are many Salons out there that haven&#8217;t got a website. And I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;ve spent some time thinking about whether they really need one.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s first look at the <strong>benefits of having a Salon website&#8230;</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>it&#8217;s a communication tool that delivers the benefits of your salon services.</li>
<li>your website appears in the search engines for a variety of keywords eg. &#8220;beauty salon&#8221;, &#8220;hair stylist&#8221;</li>
<li>once you get in the search engines you attract visitor traffic to your website as they search using the keywords</li>
<li>and once you get them to your website you can build a prospect list by capturing their name and email address</li>
<li>you can then market to these prospects to convince them to come into your Salon</li>
<li>And when they come into your Salon, you profit</li>
</ul>
<p>But what about if you don&#8217;t have a Salon website? What can you do on the internet to be able to profit. Here&#8217;s my top 3 recommendations&#8230;</p>
<p>1. You could setup a Google business listing. List your business within your geographic area which results in your listing appearing in the Google search results. This is FREE to do.</p>
<p>This may result in prospects who search on the internet for your services, telephoning your Salon and maybe making an appointment.</p>
<p>2. You could create a <strong><a href="http://www.salonsuccesswebsite.com/facebook/">Salon Facebook Fan page</a> </strong>. If you spend some time to do this yourself then you could do it at no cost.</p>
<p>You then attract clients and prospects to your Facebook Page, provide regular updates and offers which may get them telephoning your Salon to make an appointment.</p>
<p>3. You could email your list of clients. You could do this using your Salon Sofwtare system or set it up within your own personal email software. <p>But here&#8217;s the catch. Your Salon website will only be effective if it functions as a communication and marketing tool&#8230; a tool that delivers the benefits of your Salon services to your prospects and clients and automatically follows up prospects to get them into your Salon.</p>
<p>There are many parts to an effective salon website. <p>Let&#8217;s say you do have an effective website that consistently gets you 5 new clients per month. Let&#8217;s then say that each of those clients spend $50 each visit (i&#8217;ve kept that low for this example), and attend your salon 8 times per year.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s 5 x 50 x 8 = $2,000 over the next 12 months.</p>
<p>Then the next month comes and the same thing happens. You gain another $2,000 over the following 12 months.</p>
<p><strong>So for the next 12 months you gain 60 new clients that will spend $24,000 in your Salon in a 12 month period.</strong></p>
<p>All from an effective website. That you pay for once that continues to put money in your bank account.</p>
<p>How much would you pay for that?</p>
<p>I certainly wouldn&#8217;t be too concerned over a few thousand dollars. <p>So if your FIRST communication with your online prospect is trying to SELL them something, then you&#8217;re missing out on the biggest opportunity to use your salon / day spa website to massively grow your business!</p>
<p><strong>The mistake your making&#8230; is trying to SELL on the FRONTEND!</strong></p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s the BETTER option.</strong> Well, one strategy is to first build a relationship with them. Remember, the prospect coming to you through your SALON or SPA website probably knows nothing about you so the chances of selling something to them is pretty slim.</p>
<p>What should you try and do? I&#8217;d be focusing all my efforts on getting that prospect to provide me with their name and email address. And when they do provide that, hook them into an autoresponder that sends out sequential emails at a pre-set time period (eg. on Day 1, 3, 5, 7 etc).</p>
<p>The emails that go out to that prospect have the purpose of creating a desire in that prospect to want your product or service. It&#8217;s building a relationship with that prospect with the end result being that they will buy from you.</p>
<p><strong>This is what I refer to as Salon BACKEND Selling &#8211; Revealing Your Hidden Profits!</strong></p>
