<p>So if your FIRST communication with your online prospect is trying to SELL them something, then you&#8217;re missing out on the biggest opportunity to use your salon / day spa website to massively grow your business!</p>
<p><strong>The mistake your making&#8230; is trying to SELL on the FRONTEND!</strong></p>
<p><strong>What&#8217;s the BETTER option.</strong> Well, one strategy is to first build a relationship with them. Remember, the prospect coming to you through your SALON or SPA website probably knows nothing about you so the chances of selling something to them is pretty slim.</p>
<p>What should you try and do? I&#8217;d be focusing all my efforts on getting that prospect to provide me with their name and email address. And when they do provide that, hook them into an autoresponder that sends out sequential emails at a pre-set time period (eg. on Day 1, 3, 5, 7 etc).</p>
<p>The emails that go out to that prospect have the purpose of creating a desire in that prospect to want your product or service. It&#8217;s building a relationship with that prospect with the end result being that they will buy from you.</p>
<p><strong>This is what I refer to as Salon BACKEND Selling &#8211; Revealing Your Hidden Profits!</strong></p>

<p>So the second email went out on Wednesday&#8230; again the phones started to go crazy with people wanting to take advantage of the mothers day packages they were promoting.</p>
<p>Now here&#8217;s the results so far&#8230; <strong>over $20,000 in sales from 2 emails, average sale over $200.</strong> In fact, of the 3 offers he sent, the <span style="text-decoration: underline;">lowest value offer is being outsold 2:1.</span></p>
<p>In fact, he even sold a gift voucher to a guy in Sydney (who wanted it for his Mum, here in Perth, Western Australia) and he hadn&#8217;t been into their Day Spa for over 4 years. Another comment was from a real estate rep who mentioned that they were the only salon or day spa (she had been to a few over the years) that would consistently send out value added offers by email.</p>

<li>if you haven&#8217;t done it already, <strong>start collecting email addresses</strong> from your clients and prospects through your salon website or from those that visit your salon or day spa.</li>
<li>you will make more profits from a <strong>multi-step email campaign</strong>. So in the week leading up to Mothers Day you should be planning 2 or 3 emails to go to your list.</li>
<li>you must <strong>promote value added packages</strong> if you want to sell mothers day gift certificates. That is the packages that have a value far in excess of the gift voucher. Example&#8230; &#8220;get $397 worth of beauty treatments for only $247&#8243;.</li>
<li>consistently use emails to <strong>stay in touch</strong> with clients and prospects.</li>

I&#8217;ll guarantee that the majority of them have their prices displayed on them.</p>
<p><strong>So if everyone else is doing it, then so should you&#8230; right?</strong></p>
<p>IMHO, not exactly. <strong>I&#8217;m not a fan of putting prices on your website!</strong> Let me explain&#8230;</p>
<p>The biggest problem I have with it, is that, in the absence of anything else, by displaying your prices you are making price the number one determining factor whether the client will buy from you or not.</p>
<p>Take this example. Two salon owners get up in front of you&#8230; the first one say&#8217;s that the price for a new fashioned hair style is $79. The second one tells you that it&#8217;s $50. Now, which one would you choose? Remember&#8230; they say nothing else and you have to make a decision based on what has been presented to you.</p>
<p>On that basis, you&#8217;d choose the cheaper one&#8230; why would you do anything else! It&#8217;s not a trick question and also let&#8217;s assume that both salon owners look great so you don&#8217;t form an opinion on what they wear or how they look.</p>
<p><strong>And that&#8217;s the problem that I see in most salon websites that I look at. </strong>Most websites look pretty much the same, give or take a little bit of design difference. Without even thinking, salon owners create their website pretty much the same as every other salon and make their prices the only point of difference between their competition.</p>
<p>Why would you do that when studies show that only a small percentage of buyers base their decisions on price&#8230; in fact less than 25%. So why do salon owners create something that only caters for the minority? I truly believe that many salon owners base all their salon marketing on the fact that they need to be price competitive&#8230; they know nothing else!</p>
<p><strong>What about the other 75% who don&#8217;t use price as their number one determining factor</strong> on whether to do business with you or not! Show me a salon that is, or has been, massively successful being the cheapest salon around. Fact is, those salons are the first to go broke!</p>
<p>In fact, the most successful salons have been those salons who are not the cheapest. These are the salons who get their clients coming back more often and have a higher average spend per visit.</p>
<p>However&#8230; and here&#8217;s the catch&#8230; there will be a ton of people who are unlikely to contact you without an <span style="text-decoration: underline;">indication</span> of price.</p>
<p><strong>So how should you position your salon website to cater for that? Well&#8230; listen up because here&#8217;s the key ingredient.</strong></p>
<blockquote><p>Price is only important when there&#8217;s nothing else to talk about.</p></blockquote>
<p>Typically, a salon website will promote your service by including all the features. Your web visitor (prospect) will compare this service to your competition and seeing very little difference will base their buying decision on price alone.</p>
<p><strong>So the fundamental key here is to promote your difference. How? By providing more information as to why your offer is unique or different.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Here&#8217;s 4 ways you can do this&#8230;</strong></p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Make them a unique &#8220;added value&#8221; offer</strong> and display it prominantly on your website. How about $247 worth of salon services for only $99. Now, that might make you squirm a little. But the fact is the service you are offering is possibly chock full of undisclosed benefits that you&#8217;ve never put a value on. What about the 5 minute scalp massage, the neck massage, the intensive conditioning treatment. Many hair salons do that as standard but never put a value on it. It&#8217;s the same for treatments in the beauty salon.</li>
<li>What about <strong>giving away a FREE Gift voucher</strong> to &#8220;bribe&#8221; a web visitor to give them your name and email address. That way you can continue to market to them and convert them from prospect to client. <p>I&#8217;ve mentioned this before. Very few&#8230; and I mean very few, salon owners even think about marketing their salon websites. This is what I call the &#8220;Create and Forget&#8221; syndrome. They simply CREATE their salon website, get it looking all pretty so that they can show their friends and tickle their EGO&#8230; and they FORGET about it.</p>
<p><strong>It&#8217;s one of the biggest mistakes Salon Owners make. </strong>They rarely add any content, rarely change anything. But perhaps a bigger and more costly mistake is not doing anything about it! I&#8217;ve been telling you how  the &#8220;million dollar&#8221; salons use their website to continually bring in more and more profits and still the EGO driven salon owners do nothing about it.</p>
<p>Maybe I seem a little harsh but I&#8217;m telling you what I&#8217;m seeing! Anyway&#8230; let&#8217;s get on with the strategies.<br />
<strong><br />
Here&#8217;s My top 5, Salon Marketing Strategies For Your Website</strong></p>
<p>The goal is to get more visitors to your website&#8230; and once they come, to get them to take the action you want them to take. I&#8217;ve spoken about that in other salon marketing articles&#8230; you want them to give you their name and email address so that you can continue to market to them in the future.</p>
<p><strong>1. Consider your salon marketing &#8220;keywords&#8221;</strong></p>
<p>Have you ever noticed the Title bar in your browser when you visit a website?</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" src="http://www.salonsuccesswebsite.com/images/title-bar.jpg" alt="Salon Website Title Bar" width="537" height="77" /></p>
<p>It should include the <strong>number 1 keyword</strong> that you want to appear in the search engines as. So if you do &#8220;Laser Skin Therapy&#8221; and you&#8217;re based in the location of &#8220;Emerald&#8221;, then that&#8217;s what it should say. Go and check that keyword in Google&#8230; it has number 1 ranking.</p>
<p>Too many salon websites don&#8217;t do that. Many have the name of the Salon or some other obscure title. If someone doesn&#8217;t know you and they try and search for you it won&#8217;t matter what your Salon name is. They will look for the service they are after.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s the next thing. If you have many pages on your website, <strong>they should all be relevant to a different keyword</strong>. Again, many salon websites have the same Title throughout their website&#8230; a big mistake for search engine presence.</p>
<p><strong>2. Add great Content</strong></p>
<p>This is another search engine strategy, but it is also a &#8220;positioning&#8221; strategy. You should position yourself as an authority on what you do. If someone comes to your website they want good, relevant content. If you&#8217;re a beauty salon, then a great salon marketing strategy is to provide information to the web visitor that they will value. A very effective way to do this is through the technique of blogging</p>
<p><strong>3. Promote your website using traditional media</strong></p>
<p>Do you include your website URL on all your stationery, cards, communication to your clients. If you place ads in the local media, include your website address. You could even send them direct to a specific website page that relates to the ad and offer you are promoting. It&#8217;s been proven that some people prefer to go direct to a web page than make telephone contact with a business. By promoting your website address you benefit on both counts.</p>
<p><strong>4. Use email marketing</strong></p>
<p>I&#8217;ve discussed this salon marketing strategy in different articles on this website. It&#8217;s easy to email your client list and refer them to a website page. It gets them back to the website, puts them in front of your offer which if good, will get you sales. The other benefit is that<strong> <a href="http://www.salonemailprofits.com" target="_blank">salon email marketing</a></strong> is cheap, quick and can be very effective.</p>
<p><strong>5. Promote your website in online forums and blogs</strong></p>
<p>There are many online forums and blogs (just like this one) related to your industry. Find some that have serious (not spammy) discussion on your subject. Don&#8217;t be overly &#8220;aggressive&#8221; in plugging your website, be helpful, offer responses and let your &#8220;signature&#8221; at the end of your post do the marketing for you.</p>
<p>The other benefit of this is that your signature could provide you with inbound links to your website thus improving your web &#8220;visibility&#8221; and your search engine placement.</p>

<p>Today, I want to tell you about one Salon Owner I know&#8230; let&#8217;s call him &#8220;Mr X&#8221;&#8230; who continually defies the current economic climate and talk of &#8220;recession slow down&#8221; by <span style="text-decoration: underline;">constantly making more money while his competitors suffer.</span></p>

Many don&#8217;t as they realize it&#8217;s going to cost them at least 50 cents for the stamp, more for the printing of the offer and the envelope, and who knows how much time and energy to stuff the envelope. So the typical salon owner figures it&#8217;s going to cost too much and take too much time to be profitable. And besides, last year Valentines Day was not that great a promotion and today, times are tough&#8230; aren&#8217;t we in a recession??</p>
<p>This is just the thing that Mr X wants his competition to think! You don&#8217;t think his salon turns over in excess of a million dollar a year in sales doing and &#8220;thinking&#8221; the same as the struggling salons do.</p>

<p><strong>I call these &#8220;<em>hidden</em>&#8221; profits&#8230; very much the &#8220;<em>diamonds in the backyard</em>&#8220;.</strong></p>
<p>Why? Let me explain. All too often Salon and Spa owners spend all their efforts and money in marketing strategies to attract a NEW client. They rarely spend the time or money &#8220;mining&#8221; in their own backyard!</p>
<p>You see, <strong>more profits will be made from your EXISTING clients or prospects</strong> than what can be made from NEW clients. And marketing to your existing clients or prospects, that is&#8230; your list, is untold more cheaper and far more effective.</p>

<p>For the most part, <strong>email marketing is FREE!</strong> You have a list of clients and prospects on your database and to email them costs you no money. OK, there may be a cost in your internet connections, your autoresponder service, but you&#8217;re likely paying for that anyway.</p>
<p>Compare that to a mailout&#8230; you have to pay for the printing, the envelope and the postage.</p>
<p><strong>Now imagine this&#8230;</strong> you come into your Salon or Spa on a Monday and check out the bookings for the week. Business looks a little light on&#8230;  the staff are wandering around trying to make themselves look busy&#8230; they&#8217;re going to get paid anyway&#8230; rather you have them busy making YOU money!</p>
<p>You sit yourself down, and create a special package offer, something like $290 worth of salon or spa services for a special price of $127. It&#8217;s for this week only, at that price you only offer 17 packages. You write that out and then fire up your email service that can broadcast that special offer out to your list of past clients and prospects. You hit the send button on your computer and then go and get yourself a cup of coffee.</p>
<p>5 minutes later you are enjoying the coffee and the telephone starts to ring. Not just once but a steady stream. You&#8217;re front desk receptionist is starting to get a little busy so you put another staff member on the telephones to help her out. The people who are ringing are clients who want to book in for the special offer they just received in their email inbox. They were thinking about doing something special this week and then your email promoting your special offer prompted them to give you a call. <strong>Hey&#8230; they&#8217;re SAVING money coming in to pay you $127.</strong></p>
<p>Pretty soon the 17 packages have been sold and the clients are all booked in&#8230; in fact, you&#8217;ve actually sold 25 packages&#8230; That&#8217;s not bad, let&#8217;s not tell anyone we actually sold a few more than what we said we would. Your staff are now busy for the week and you&#8217;ve just generated (25 @ $127) $3,175 from one email.</p>
<p>Not bad for a few minutes work!</p>
