Today I want to tell you about Deanne… a beauty salon owner who wanted to get her salon business online. I met her 10 days ago and at that time she had absolutely NO internet presence. You wouldn’t have been able to find her business anywhere online.

But first, I want to explain to you why you should have a business website for your Salon or Spa.

If you own a business today your customers EXPECT you to have a web site and even be contactable by email.

To enjoy all the benefits the internet has to offer, your salon website must be able to be FOUND and ATTRACT.

But here’s where most get it wrong. They don’t design it to FIT the way the internet media is being used by the billions of people who access it each day. People use the internet to research products and services, to FIND relevant information.

Many Salons & Spa businesses have websites. But one of the biggest problems I find is that they’re not designed for their customers. Usually they’re designed by the owner, for the owner… to satisfy their creative ego!

They don’t ATTRACT!

Usually the websites full of rubbish… stuff the business owner THINKS visitors to the website want to know. And a big part of it is designed to show “look how great I am, look at me, i’m fantastic”

Here’s an example… (salon name has been removed). I just went and checked out one hair salon’s website where the main element presented to the website visitor was their business vision…

“Exclusive, personalized one on one service. Offering the most professional personalized and fashion forward advice in (removed) At (removed) you’ll arrive feeling at home and part of a family and be guided by a team that’s highly educated to ensure you leave breathless.”

What’s that supposed to mean? And is it designed to get the website visitor so “enthralled” that they then pick up the telephone, dial the number and announce “just this morning I woke up wanting to find a hair salon that had this Vision… please book me in!”

I don’t think so!

Here’s some of what website visitors really want to know;

where are you

Are you open

What’s in it for me

Can I connect with you (phone, facebook)

Are people raving about you

Couple of big things there… where are you, whats in it for me!

I doubt that prospective clients will travel a great distance to try you out on their first visit… you must be convenient to where they are right now. Are you being FOUND in the right location?

Are you offering anything that gets the visitor’s attention! New clients would be attracted to you for many reasons… they may need a new look, want a hair repair job, have a formal event coming up and want to look great, need a colour etc. Are you ATTRACTING?

Having a website that fits what people are looking for is perhaps the cheapest, easiest way to grow your business. And it must be easy to find you in your particular area.

So right now… what are YOU doing wrong!

Ok, you might disagree with me for whatever reason. But understand… I’m talking from the view of your prospective client who right now is searching the internet looking for your particular service and is willing to pay you for your services.

So I don’t give two hoots if you disagree with me. You can be “RIGHT” if you want. I’ll continue to work with those who would rather make money based on what I have discovered really works for salons and spas on the internet.

Which brings me back to Deanne… a beauty salon owner who I met just 10 days ago who wanted to get her salon business online.

And today, just 10 days later… here’s what she has.

She now has a website for her business, that is now appearing in search engines, that may very soon be at the TOP, outranking all her competition for her particular geographic area.

She is being FOUND!

PLUS, she has a great big ATTENTION grabber for her website visitors that gives a STRONG reason for them to make contact with her business.

She is ATTRACTING!

It’s been kept simple (because business on the internet does not have to be complicated) and ALREADY she is getting results.

All within 10 days!

It doesn’t have to take months and months nor does it have to be expensive.

And here’s the best bit. If Deanne wants to “grow” her website she can do it herself. There’s no need to spend money with web-designers. She has total control over her adding or changing her website content.

If you’d like to check out her website then just leave a comment below and I’ll send you the details. You’re not getting this sort of information without a little effort on your part… go and leave a comment below

And if you need a website for your business, or you’re starting to think that maybe your website is not quite hitting the mark, then do something about it and complete your details at the following link;

You go and invest a lot in a salon or spa website.. what’s next? Do you just sit back and hope (maybe pray) that it brings a horde of well-paying clients into your business?

Or do you give some thought on how best to actually make it work for you – how you can profit from the money you spent, just like you would with any other type of advertising media you may choose to invest in.

Your website can be a great marketing tool. But it’s only the beginning part of a complete online marketing system.

There are many parts to it. And if you DON’T take control of each part you may end up with just an expensive piece of internet real estate that no one can ever find!

Let me explain. And to help me do that you first need to understand what consumers are now doing.

More and more consumers are going online to gain an opinion on a particular product, company or service.

The internet has become very “social”. Imagine it to be like a giant coffee shop full of people who meet up and have something to say, maybe even gossip about.

And they “publish” this gossip all over the place. Take, for example, people complaining about a product or a service they have recently experienced – referred to as “negative opinions”.

These negative opinions are broadcast all over the internet. I’ve seen many salon and spa reviews that have been published on the internet that the business owner possibly has no idea about.

Check the Google Review below, written about a particular day spa… (note: this took me about 10 seconds to find when I searched for a day spa in a particular area)
See their recommendation – “Avoid This Place”.

And this comment has been published on the particular business’s Google directory listing… right under their business name… available for all to read.

You’ll like this: I rang this day spa and told them they had this negative review. Guess what… they didn’t know about it… and they didn’t really care.

The owner told me that they have many other clients really happy with their service. That’s great… unfortunately those clients don’t go and publish their opinions for all to see, unlike the negative ones.

Now, I agree with the owner… they shouldn’t be concerned about it as a reflection of their usual level of service.

BUT… they are NOT their potential NEW clients!

How much new business will they miss out on from people who are searching on the internet for their particular service.

I think they’ll be losing a GREAT deal of new business! And that’s just from 1 negative review… what if there were many!

There is a way to fix this… but as the owner was not too concerned about it, nor about my “good samaritan” effort in telling them… I just told him to have a great day and hung up.

But back to my point: having a website is just one tiny piece of the internet puzzle. There are many more parts.

But there’s good news… all of the “internet parts” don’t have to be in perfect synch for YOUR business to prosper on the internet.

You just have to get a few parts working right.

Here’s what I mean.

When I talk to many salon and spa owners about their “internet presence” they tell me they want to showcase all their services, show how great they provide these services, and then create something that reflects the fantastic ambiance of their business.

They want something all “touchy and feely, warm and cuddly”! Something they can impress their family and friends with and say “look how pretty my business is”.

And many of them want to be able to SELL everything on their website. From their services through to all their products.

That’s all great… and then I ask if they’ve got a budget of 20 thousand dollars plus to invest in their idea of their dream website, so that they can impress their family and friends.

Most salon and spa owners then start to get a little twitchy when I mention that figure! Because that’s what you could be spending if you go down the “touch, feely, warm and cuddly” path.

Small business can’t afford that… it’s too risky on low margin services!

It’s right then that I start to educate them in the fine arts of the internet world for small business. And I say to them;

“what would you think of a website that could bring in 10 to 20 NEW clients per month, at a fraction of the cost I mentioned earlier. And this website did this month after month… without ever taking a day off!”

It’s about creating a “low-cost” marketing tool that ATTRACTS new clients and has potentially very high returns that are easily measurable. This is far more efficient for small business than spending $20,000 plus to impress your family and friends.

It’s about now they start to get a little interested… Remember when I said that you only have to get a few parts working right for your business to prosper.

All you have to do is create “a website lead generation system”. And to put it simply, that’s ALL your website needs to do.

Consistently generate NEW leads that become NEW clients! I call it “Function over Form”!

That’s where the MONEY is! And as a small business owner, that’s what you should be focused on.

Yes, your website should look good… but the critical element is that it “functions” right.

But again, there are many parts to this internet jungle and over time you can work on that.

Sometimes, having JUST a website is NOT enough!

Many of my clients will testify to that. Most recoup their investment within 6 to 8 weeks when they combine their website with other internet marketing strategies.

Getting a few things right with this internet media will allow YOU to PROSPER.

Getting them wrong is like throwing your money down the drain. And it can be very expensive!

So where are you at right now with your internet efforts? Is your internet presence clearly and measurably prosperous for you right now?

Can you easily identify the EXTRA business your online presence provides?

Or is it just an expensive piece of junk, just sitting there taking up a valuable piece of internet real estate?

Let me ask you. If you paid a few thousand dollars for a service would you accept that it didn’t work?

I know I wouldn’t… and I bet you wouldn’t either, not intentionally anyway.

Especially when you spend the money with the purpose of it producing results… such as bringing in new clients and making you money.

But this is exactly what Salon owners are doing when they pay to create the ordinary, looks like everybody else’s, salon website.

They’re paying for crappy results!

And I see this every day.

Here’s my most recent example. A salon owner contacted me the other day… she asked me not to mention her name due to the embarrassment of what she discovered during our conversation. Let’s just say she operates a beauty salon in New South Wales.

Anyway… she asked me to look over her website, point out some things that she could be doing better… because guess what, she had not gained $1 from this website that had been created for her, 6 months before.

First up, I checked if her website appeared in the search engines – NO it didn’t.

Second, I asked her whether she had gained any clients from her website – NO it hadn’t.

It was right there I stopped, I didn’t have to go any further… and I asked her… “How much did this website cost?”. The answer… $4,000.

I then asked if she was happy about that. Her response… She wasn’t sure!

I was expecting her to be really annoyed, maybe respond by saying “NO, I’m not happy with the results!” And maybe something along the lines of “I wasted my money”, or “I’m going to grab the designer around the neck, shake ‘em up a little, beat ‘em around the ears and get my money back”

But no… her response… “I’m not sure”.

Her response got me thinking. Have Salon Owners been conditioned to think that a website is a “have to have” sort of thing that’s going to cost a few dollars for the purpose of just hanging around in the background, a thing that’s not meant to do all that much.

I’m thinking… are Salon owners completely nuts… you spend that amount of money should you not expect a return on your investment… quickly? How come they don’t understand what a salon website should be doing for them…

attracting new prospects

convert these prospects into paying clients

get these clients coming back to your salon more often

and do it all on “auto-pilot” without you having to spend much time on it

Not much to it really… but to achieve all that your salon website has to be easily found in a search engine… and be the first choice for a visitor who is searching for the service your salon provides.

And when they visit your website, are the visitors “doing” what you want them to do.

Anyway, back to the Salon Owner who contacted me.

There were quite a few things that had been done completely wrong. And it was clear why she had not received any return on her $4000 investment.

She did tell me that she had contacted the person who created the website. This person stated to her that it would take at least 6 months before her website would appear in the search engines.

That statement was a complete load of bollocks!

When done right, a salon website can have a good ranking and presence in the search engines within 1 to 4 weeks.

And that search engine presence will result in new visitors to your website.

Now, to a lot of salon owners out there, that may sound like it’s too hard for you to think about… you’re a busy business owner that leaves website stuff to a website designer.

But that can prove to be a costly mistake! Spend $4,000 and not get $1 back… after 6 months… just like the embarrassed Salon Owner I’ve been talking about.

Here’s what’s possible. Spend some money now on a salon website that works, and recoup 2 to 3 times the investment within 12 months.

It’s possible.

Which would you rather be? The embarrassed salon owner who pays $4,000 for no results, or the smarter salon owner who spends money to make much, much more.

I know which one I’d rather be.

Click on the link below if you’d rather be the smarter salon owner. Make sure you do it before your competition does.

Number 1 on your salon internet marketing strategy is to continue to deliver great website content that educates and informs your clients and prospects of the services you provide in your Salon or Spa.

And I’m often asked the best way to do this. It’s also a great idea to deliver this content in a way that you benefit from search engine rankings.

Here’s what usually happens. You spend a small fortune on getting a website built and then you just leave it hoping it’s going to get more clients coming into your door.

Well, to some that does happen. If you get it built right the first time then with a bit of luck you start to get a whole pile of traffic from the search engines.

And if it’s a Salon Success Website Solution, you’ll likely have great Google rankings for all the keywords that relate to the services you provide.

But there’s a need to continue to add good quality content that engages your readers, builds your credibility and get’s your clients and prospects to keep coming back to your website.

So what do I recommend for adding content? Well… the best salon internet marketing strategy that I haver seen is commonly referred to as “Blogging”. In fact, I’ve written a FREE guide “Blogging For Salons” that you can download right now. Just locate the download link from within the following article…

Blogging For Salons

Here’s why I recommend Blogging.

it’s quick and easy for you to login to your Blog Admin panel and add the content… so there’s no need for a web designer.

when you base your content on keywords associated with your marketplace, you will gain search engine rankings for that keyword.

it catalogues your posts (your articles) and then archives them for easy access.

you can quickly inform your clients about things that are happening within your Salon or Spa. eg. have a new facial product, hair colouring system, or even a special offer… then put it up on your Blog.

have a client of the week… Blog about it and include some photos.

you can easily incorporate a Blog into your existing website.

All in all, it’s a great Salon internet marketing strategy. One that will keep your website fresh and updated.

Make sure you grab a copy of the FREE “Blogging For Salons” guide from the link above.
