Yesterday my girlfriend wanted to buy a Weber BBQ. These things are amazing. They’re a small, very efficient BBQ that cooks your meat, fish, whatever… to perfection.

Anyway, it was Sunday afternoon, off we went to the BBQ shop. The shop owner started to tell us about each of the different models but my girlfriend… her name is Gerri… had already done all the research using her Ipad on the internet and knew exactly what she wanted.

“I’ll have that one”, she said. “Great choice” said the shop owner… “unfortunately the last one was sold just 10 minutes ago. We’ll have more stock during the week.”

This wasn’t going as expected. When Gerri gets it in her mind to buy something she fully intends to walk out with it under her arm. Tonights BBQ was already defrosting on the sink back home. Our thoughts of enjoying a pleasant evening with great food cooked on the BBQ was fast disappearing.

Not to worry I thought. Let’s go to another shop. We jumped back into the car, Gerri turned on her Ipad ready to check out the internet for other shops in the area.

Easily found… a quick telephone call to check if the model she wanted was in stock… Yes, it was.

A few hours later we’re enjoying the BBQ dinner.

So what’s this got to do with you?

It’s a great example of how people are using the internet. People use the internet to research products and services, to FIND relevant information.

They expect your business to be online.

Some time ago I told you about Deanne, a Salon Owner who wanted to get her salon business online.

In my Blog Post “One Salon Owners Website Journey” I explained that her business couldn’t be found on the internet. If you searched for her service you wouldn’t have found her anywhere.

Today it’s different!

She now ranks #1 amongst all her competition.

When you search for “beauty salon” in her area, this is what you get

She’s doing EXACTLY what is expected by internet users. Making her business VISIBLE for anyone to find quickly and easily.

Unfortunately, not every Salon owner can say the same thing!

When you get it right, your salon business can appear on the Internet as the BIGGEST, BEST salon in town.

Imagine you’re walking down the main street of your city or town looking for a place to eat.

You’d probably walk into the nicest place… probably where most people are already eating. You’d never walk into an eating house that is empty, or hidden away in a back street.

You’re most likely to walk into the most VISIBLE place that attracts your attention FIRST.

That’s exactly what you can achieve on the internet.

That’s exactly what Deanne has now done with her business.

It’s exactly what my girlfriend Gerri did to buy her Weber BBQ.

Right now, I’ve got 3 spots available for savvy salon owners that want to achieve the same thing.

What would it mean to your business, to be the #1 choice in your area. For Deanne, right now, she’s attracting new clients into her Salon.

Click Here To Take Action Now

It’s a short form for you to complete. Fill it out then I’ll give you a call to discuss what your Salon could achieve. Then you can decide what you want to do about it.

Have a great week.Related Posts:

Have you any idea what the number 1 “offline” referrer of new clients to your Salon is?

Is it the regular newspaper ad you run, what about “word of mouth”, even walk in traffic from the shopping centre you are located in.

Maybe it’s the yellow pages! But if you ask me I’d be saying that the the Yellow Pages, as a source of hew business to your Salon… is dead in the water!

And here’s why.

I’ve been a a business owner just like you. The amount of money I spent on Yellow Pages advertising would amount to over $250,000 over an 8 year period.

I hated spending it… and I hated the annual visit from the Yellow Pages rep who used to explain all the new features they had that year and that it was only going to cost 8% more than last year.

And then they’d go onto explain how bad business could become if I dared change the size of the ad, how I’d be re-positioned to the back of the section.

And a part of me did get frightened. I had some pretty big competition and the thought of letting them get one up on me was scary.

What if I lost customers… what if I’d be making a mistake.

The fact was… Yellow Pages was getting me business… and I was at the mercy of the big advertiser who had such a stranglehold on my client base.

That was back in 2003… fast forward to today… 2011.

In my opinion, the Yellow Pages is dead as a referrer of new business. Even if the opportunity existed to jump into the Yellow Pages, right up the front of the Salon section… I’d be saving my money and telling the Yellow Pages rep to take a jump!

The cost for a Yellow Pages ad is huge… and there’s no guarantee that it’s going to work for you. There’s too many unknowns beyond your control. Where is your ad going to appear,
right side, left side, top or bottom, are my competitors before me?

Here’s the biggest killer of the Yellow Pages… very few people now use it to find a Salon service. Is your ideal client aged below 55? The fact is… most people, especially your ideal client, now uses other means to find a service business such as yours.

They use the internet, they use their smartphone!

The last place they go to is the bulky Yellow Pages book.

3 months ago I got my new Yellow Pages delivered to my front door. It’s still in it’s plastic wrapper sitting in a corner of my office.

Note to self… get up and throw it in the bin!

Special note: when I refer to the Yellow Pages I’m talking about the bulky Yellow books PLUS Yellow Pages online. SAVE your money… look for cheaper more effective options and don’t believe one word from the Yellow Pages rep about volume statistics regarding searches in your particular Salon industry.

So, as a Salon owner what does this mean to you?

Understand what your clients are doing. Find out if they use the internet to find you.

And then make sure that your Salon is setup to take advantage of the internet based tools that accommodate what your clients are doing.

That’s Google Places for Salons and it’s optimizing or creating a Salon website that is a lead generation tool. That is, it clearly brings new clients into your Salon.

I spend a lot of time checking out what Salons are doing on the Internet. And 95% of them have no idea what to do.

You want your Salon to be dominant on the internet.

You want your Salon to be dominant in the smartphone marketplace.

It’s not diificult… and it cost a small fraction of what the Yellow Pages is going to cost you.

It’s far more effective… and it SAVES you money.

I wish they had this sort of technology back when I ran my business because I would have beaten the pants off my competition!

Is your Salon consistently getting NEW clients from your website and online tools like Google Places? If not…. then contact me by clicking on this link and we can discuss how the Salon Success Website System can get you MORE clients and make you MORE sales.Related Posts:

Does your Salon or Day Spa have a Google Map listing? If NOT, then you are missing out on one of the biggest GIANT shifts in technology being used today.

Here’s what I mean.

Your clients and prospective clients are now using SMART technology to find you. They are using Google or their mobile telephone to search within their local area for your service.

The Yellow Pages are now being replaced by online technology such as Google as the number 1 source for finding your business.

In my opinion, I believe that the Yellow Pages is DEAD as a source for new business.

For me, I’d rather make use the internet or my mobile phone rather than search around for a big yellow book .

I just tried it on my iphone. I’ve got this FREE iphone “app” (Google Search), I typed in “hair salon” and then pressed search.

Up came a few hair salons in my local area. It’s really smart. This “app” automatically picks up my current location and only returns the results within that area.

Same thing if I want a restaurant. Just type in “restaurant” and local results are shown.

This is where it gets really interesting. Have you done a search on Google lately?

Google has just changed how it searches and the search results it returns. And it’s going to effect YOUR business whether you like it or not!

I just typed in the same keyword “hair salon” without any geographic location eg. “hair salon brisbane“. The results it returned were hair salons in my local area. So Google is now returning LOCAL search results.

Are you starting to understand the power of this?

But here’s the catch!

For your business to appear, you must have setup a Google listing. And this is something that only 3% of businesses have done. Do the math… 97% of businesses have NOT setup their
Google local business listing.

Now consider this?

When doing a search, 34% of people today are using the listings on Google Maps to find a local business. And this number is growing daily! They could be using the internet or their smartphone. And they’re looking for YOUR business!

Is your Salon or Day Spa business able to be FOUND using Google Maps?

There’s a very strong possibility that the answer is NO!

Here’s where I can help you…

Setting up a Google listing can be tricky. It does require that you know what you’re doing. For your listing to appear in search results successfully requires that you do it the right way. Google has certain requirements and options that need to be completed for your listing to appear in the top results.

That’s what I can do. And I’m about to launch a new product to SOLVE this problem for Salon and Day Spa owners.

This new product is going to allow your business to take advantage of this new SMART technology, so you can be found in local search results using either the internet or a mobile telephone.

I’ve got to write a sales page, setup buying links, thankyou pages… a whole pile of stuff.

And it’s likely going to cost $497.

But here’s what I can do right now. If you want to jump on this today, it’s only going to cost $347. That’s a saving of $150.

I’ll only do this for the first 5… after that I’m going to say NO. You’ll have to wait until I set the sales page up right

Click here to jump on this special offer right now and SAVE $150.

I’ll go and create your successful Google business listing that will start working for you straight away.Related Posts:

Will they find your Salon or Spa business?

Love it or hate it, you need to stay on top of the expanding digital economy if you want a successful business.

I recently read an article that was discussing the role the internet in our daily lives. You can read it here…

Google: the opportunities of the NBN

It had some really interesting statistics (though they are relevant to Australia, it’s likely to be the same in similar economies):

Of the nearly 2 million small businesses who make up a staggering 96% of all businesses, 39% do not have a website.

4 out of 5 Australians research products online

45% of Australian internet users publish their opinions about products, services and brands and a staggering 86% read other consumers opinions online.

As more people get online, users needs, behaviours and expectations evolve. This represents a huge missed opportunity for finding new customers for businesses who don’t participate in this expanding digital economy.

Salon and Spa businesses used to rely on the Yellow Pages and word of mouth to find new customers and to establish their reputation. Yet today’s word of mouth is transmitted as often through Facebook or Twitter, as it is over a cup of tea. Today’s users find businesses as often on Google Maps from a mobile telephone as from a street directory.

As a Salon or Spa owner, you need to pay attention to what your prospects and clients are doing. To be a successful business you need to participate in this changing digital age.

It can be confusing, it can be frustrating.

I see many salon and spa owners trying to make money using Google Adwords “Pay Per Click” (PPC) campaigns to drive traffic to their salon websites. Put simply, you pay Google when a web visitor clicks on your campaign Ad that results in them “landing” on your website.

Not all of them are succeeding. Many are paying more money for the clicks than sales being made when they visit your salon website. Many are failing because they’re trying to do it by themselves without the proper level of knowledge or understanding how the Google Adwords system works.

Now you don’t have to do this all by yourself!

Today I want to tell you about a FREE tool that you can download right now that will massively help you in your salon marketing with Google Adwords.

How does this Google Adwords tool work? It automatically seeks out high quality sites than run Google Adwords, on the exact topics that you’re looking for. It then tells you the traffic that these sites get and gives you a list that you then enter into your google adwords campaign to be able to start advertising on those targeted sites for a fraction of what the search network costs.

Those of you who do salon marketing with Google Adwords may know that you can run your ad campaigns either on the “search” network or the “content” network. Understanding how both these networks function can considerable reduce your “costs per click” (CPCs).

This is not a black hat tool. It simply automates what would take you hours and hours and hours – if you could do it at all. Simply input your keywords into the software, and get dozens, if not hundreds, of targeted sites that will help you make money faster.

Best of all… you can get it now for FREE! It’s called “Adwords Digger”

Now, there are other products and software that claim to be able to do this… and, some might actually be able to do it… for a price. That’s right, all of “Adwords Digger” competitors expect you to pay for their product when you can get this tool for FREE.

What? You want me to repeat that last part? I said FREE. And I do mean free. 100% absolutely, completely free. No purchase required. No mail-in rebates. (Am I obsessing about this point? Perhaps. Buy that’s because it’s FREE!!) And not free*, either. No fine-print asterisk that taketh away. It’s not a demo, or a free trial. When you go to Adwords Digger and download it, you get the complete full version.

Download it NOW by clicking here.

Adwords Digger is one of a suite of tools from the PPCKahuna membership program that they have decided to make public. It only takes about 10 minutes to download, and you’ll get lower CPCs and a higher conversion rate on your salon marketing Adwords campaigns.

What else could you want? Oh, you want to know how it works? Fine. Once you select your keywords, and select how many results to check, Adwords Digger then gets the results, visits each site, and checks the site’s traffic stats. When that step is complete, it ranks the sites for you, and you just select the URLs that you want to use and save it as a text file. Copy and paste that text file into your Adwords placement targeting list and voila! your salon marketing Adwords campaign will start running on those targeted sites.

And have I mentioned that it’s free (I may have, at some point.) So really, what do you have to lose?

I’m going to be talking a lot more about PPC programs in future articles. Stay tuned.

Today I’m going to talk a little bit more about Salon Marketing… specifically how you can get more visitors to your website.

I’ve mentioned this before. Very few… and I mean very few, salon owners even think about marketing their salon websites. This is what I call the “Create and Forget” syndrome. They simply CREATE their salon website, get it looking all pretty so that they can show their friends and tickle their EGO… and they FORGET about it.

It’s one of the biggest mistakes Salon Owners make. They rarely add any content, rarely change anything. But perhaps a bigger and more costly mistake is not doing anything about it! I’ve been telling you how the “million dollar” salons use their website to continually bring in more and more profits and still the EGO driven salon owners do nothing about it.

Maybe I seem a little harsh but I’m telling you what I’m seeing! Anyway… let’s get on with the strategies.

Here’s My top 5, Salon Marketing Strategies For Your Website

The goal is to get more visitors to your website… and once they come, to get them to take the action you want them to take. I’ve spoken about that in other salon marketing articles… you want them to give you their name and email address so that you can continue to market to them in the future.

1. Consider your salon marketing “keywords”

Have you ever noticed the Title bar in your browser when you visit a website?

It should include the number 1 keyword that you want to appear in the search engines as. So if you do “Laser Skin Therapy” and you’re based in the location of “Emerald”, then that’s what it should say. Go and check that keyword in Google… it has number 1 ranking.

Too many salon websites don’t do that. Many have the name of the Salon or some other obscure title. If someone doesn’t know you and they try and search for you it won’t matter what your Salon name is. They will look for the service they are after.

Here’s the next thing. If you have many pages on your website, they should all be relevant to a different keyword. Again, many salon websites have the same Title throughout their website… a big mistake for search engine presence.

2. Add great Content

This is another search engine strategy, but it is also a “positioning” strategy. You should position yourself as an authority on what you do. If someone comes to your website they want good, relevant content. If you’re a beauty salon, then a great salon marketing strategy is to provide information to the web visitor that they will value. A very effective way to do this is through the technique of blogging

3. Promote your website using traditional media

Do you include your website URL on all your stationery, cards, communication to your clients. If you place ads in the local media, include your website address. You could even send them direct to a specific website page that relates to the ad and offer you are promoting. It’s been proven that some people prefer to go direct to a web page than make telephone contact with a business. By promoting your website address you benefit on both counts.

4. Use email marketing

I’ve discussed this salon marketing strategy in different articles on this website. It’s easy to email your client list and refer them to a website page. It gets them back to the website, puts them in front of your offer which if good, will get you sales. The other benefit is that salon email marketing is cheap, quick and can be very effective.

5. Promote your website in online forums and blogs

There are many online forums and blogs (just like this one) related to your industry. Find some that have serious (not spammy) discussion on your subject. Don’t be overly “aggressive” in plugging your website, be helpful, offer responses and let your “signature” at the end of your post do the marketing for you.

The other benefit of this is that your signature could provide you with inbound links to your website thus improving your web “visibility” and your search engine placement.

That’s it… 5 of my top salon marketing strategies for your website. Would love to hear your opinions, so leave your comments below.
